Popular Pop-Up to Open First Brick-and-Mortar in Boston’s North End

Fish Taco , a popular taco pop-up, is set to open its first brick-and-mortar eatery at 227 Hanover St in Boston ’s North End , taking over the former site of Suasday. Leading this venture are cousins Jessica Chiep and Menghong Hak , known for their involvement with local restaurant group Love Art .

Founded in 2014 by partners Ronald Liu and Jessica Chiep, Love Art is behind a range of restaurants, including the now-shuttered Suasday, Love Art Sushi, and Kokoda in the Seaport District. Although Fish Taco shares a branding association with Love Art, the eatery distinguishes itself as “its own entity and ecosystem.”

The Hanover St space is cozy and inviting, primarily designed for takeout with limited counter seating available. The Fish Taco menu blends New England seafood with street-style tacos, embracing a casual, surf-and-turf approach. Half of the offerings will be seafood-based, with fish selections rotating based on market availability, while the other half will include meat options like chicken and chorizo.

A standout feature of Fish Taco is its freshly crafted flour tortillas. Additionally, the establishment plans to introduce a signature squid ink tortilla alongside seasonal selections, with corn tortillas also on offer.

Beyond tacos, patrons can explore a range of sides, flame-charred salsas, house-made beverages, and customizable rice and salad bowls. Catering services are available for those looking to elevate their events.

The tacos will be priced at $3 a piece, with a special Taco Tuesday promotion showcasing the taco of the day at $2. To commemorate the grand opening on April 20, 2024, Fish Taco will be giving away 1,000 complimentary tacos with any purchase, limited to two per guest.

Operating hours are set for Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. While the eatery will be accessible on major delivery platforms, priority will be given to in-house diners.
