The night the Red Sox proved they are anything but boring

Monday night was all the ultimate reminder of how good it can be for Boston sports fans.

There was the presence of the world champion Boston Celtics.

There was the Red Sox' comeback from a four-run, eighth-inning deficit, complete with Derrick White's 'Baseball Isn't Boring' t-shirt hype video just before Romy Gonzalez's two-out, two-run, game-tying single.

And, ultimately the walk-off by the city's budding superstar, Jarren Duran.

After the 7-6 win over the Blue Jays, the Red Sox have now won 10 of 12 games and would make the postseason if everything ended today. They are 21-12 since May 19, own MLB's 2nd-best record in that span, and lead MLB with 14 wins in the month of June (14-7 record).

It's a run that has been - and will be - dissected leading into trade deadline month. A more complete roster full of well-meaning, not-knowing-any better athletes who have officially used series wins over the mighty Phillies and Yankees as a springboard.

But on this night the most impactful dynamic was the environment in the confines of Fenway Park. No need to lean on bobblehead nights, or the touristy "Fenway Experience".

People actually cared about - and liked - the local baseball team.

Walk-offs always bring out the enthusiasm in the home crowd, so that wasn't anything new or unexpected. It was more about the perfect storm at the perfect time for a Red Sox team many New Englanders are just being introduced to.

The Celtics are now heading to their homes, and the Patriots quest for a five-win season doesn't start for another month. This was the sweet spot for Alex Cora and Co. They didn't miss.

"The intensity was awesome," Duran said. "We got down, and it honestly didn’t feel as if (the fans) gave up on us, which was awesome. It definitely helps when you have the fans behind you, rooting for you, screaming. It was an aweome experience and I’m thankful for these fans. It was amazing."
