The Squealing Pig in Boston ’s Mission Hill neighborhood has closed indefinitely following a fire so severe that it melted a nearby light pole and gutted the restaurant.

According to an NECN report , the fire broke out around midnight on Wednesday at the 134 Smith St eatery. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames in about 15 minutes, but the restaurant’s interior was completely charred.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Owner Diarmuid O’Neill addressed the incident in a recent Instagram post , stating, “Unfortunately due to a fire last night, the Squealing Pig will be closed indefinitely.”

The Squealing Pig is known for its extensive beer selection, creative pub grub, and occasional live music. The restaurant offers an eclectic selection of cuisine, from wood-fired pizzas, hamburgers, and tacos to curries, quesadillas, and tofu dishes.

What Now Boston has reached out to O’Neill to inquire about any GoFundMe campaigns or other initiatives to support the business. In the meantime, patrons are encouraged to visit The Squealing Pig’s Provincetown location.
