The Boston Red Sox entered their Saturday afternoon battle with the New York Yankees with the chance to earn a series win, but they dropped the matchup 14-4.

Boston's bats were all right, driving in four runs in the first five innings. Rafael Devers (2-for-4) brought home two runs, including one on his solo home run while Masataka Yoshida (1-for-4) and Reese McGuire (2-for-4) both drove in a run each.

However, the strikeouts continue to be an issue for the offense, as they went down on strikes 12 times.

Red Sox starter Josh Winckowski wasn't great, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over his 3 2/3 innings.

It was the bullpen, however, that really let things get out of hand.

Brennan Bernardino allowed two runs in his 2/3 of an inning, Greg Weissert allowed four runs in his 1/3 of an inning and Chase Anderson allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings.

The bullpen has been taxed early on in the season, and this could be the group starting to break down.

This loss drops Boston 48-40 on the season and 28-17 on the road. It also ends their five-game win streak. These two teams will meet again on Sunday for the finale of the series, which declare a winner of the three-game set.
