When news broke that the Boston Celtics were going to have their majority owner Wyc Grousbeck sell his shares fresh on the heels of the storied ball club finally breaking through to win Banner 18, a lot of speculation ensued.

Why were the Celtics selling now of all times? Did it have something to do with their rapidly ballooning payroll? Or was it because the team already had a secret buyer lined up? Was the chatter about co-owner Steve Pagliuca wanting to buy the ball club accurate? But the truth of what was driving the sale may actually turn out to be a pretty dull reason.
