5 Questions with Colleen from Love Child

Editor’s note: In an effort to promote small businesses, our SLIP Interns will be presenting features on small businesses in the neighborhood.

We visited Love Child on West Broadway to meet with the owner, Colleen, and chat about her business. Here are the 5 Questions I asked her.

What inspired you to start Love Child?

I am passionate about flowers, and I started my own flower business. My best friend, Crystal had a beverage business, and we’d go to parties and catered events. We started working together a lot and then thought it would be a nice idea to start a business, so here we are.

What do you sell here?

Flowers and all types of beverages including non-alcoholic ones and beer, wine, and other types of drinks with alcohol.

Any fun events planned for this summer?

Next week, we have a flower-arranging class on July,18th. You will learn how to make a centerpiece, and you also have access to a margarita bar, featuring not alcoholic margaritas and regular margaritas, for people to enjoy. (You can register for the Summer Vaca flower arranging class here.)

How many flowers are sold in a day?

Well, on average we sell 10 bouquets per day. And then, for stems it varies anywhere from 50 to 150 .

What’s your favorite flower?

That’s a tough one. I’d say roses. You can get them all year roud and they come in all different colors and types of varieties.

Tell us about the Blooms and Bevvies Cafe.

It’s in the back area of the shop and people can come in and learn how to make little floral arrangements while enjoying a beverage. It’s very informal and fun. There are written instructions at the table and we check in while people are creating. They can make bouquets or a bud vase arrangement or even a big center piece, People can also bring in their own vases or they can purchase one of ours.

I had fun visiting and interviewing Colleen. She showed me how to create a beautiful bouquet that I got bring home.
