STOUGHTON — Christian Cousins, the 17-year-old Stoughton High School senior who was fatally shot in Mattapan, is being remembered by family and friends as a dedicated student known for his kindness, humor and gentle soul.

"Christian was a beloved member of the Stoughton community and was deeply connected to his friends and their families. He was known for his generosity, gentle spirit, and unwavering loyalty. His presence was a source of light and positivity, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him," his obituary read.

Cousins was fatally shot in an incident that injured another classmate in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston on July 5.

Both students were found with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the area of Gladeside Avenue and Donwood Terrace at about 12:23 p.m. and were transported to local hospitals, officials said.

    Cousins was since pronounced deceased.

    Who was Christian Cousins?

Cousins was born on September 22, 2006, in Atlanta, Georgia, to parents Shalair Armstrong-Cousins and Eric Jahmal Cousins.

He attended Stoughton Middle School and Stoughton High School, where he was set to graduate as part of the class of 2025.

"He was not only a dedicated student but also a cherished friend. Known for his kindness, humor and gentle soul, Christian's warm personality made everyone feel comfortable around him," his obituary read.

After graduation, Cousins had plans to move to California to further expand a car wrapping business he started with a close friend. The two had traveled to North Carolina to become certified together. Cousins and his brother also ran a Turo business in California that he had plans to continue.

Outside of his educational and entrepreneurial pursuits, Cousins was an accomplished athlete. He played on the AAU Brockton basketball team and earned a black belt in MMA by the age of 15.

He also had a deep appreciation for travel and adventure.

"Christian had an adventurous spirit, enjoying activities such as water rafting and surfing in California with his brother, Jalen. He had memorable experiences traveling to Senegal with his mother and brother at a young age," his obituary read. Cousins also spent his summers traveling to Georgia to visit his grandparents.

"As we remember Christian, we honor his spirit and the legacy he leaves behind. His journey, though tragically cut short, was filled with love, adventure, and a relentless pursuit of his dreams," according to his obituary. "Christian wasn't just anybody; he was a light in our lives, surrounded by love, and he will continue to be remembered that way."

A memorial service for Cousins was held on Monday afternoon at the Canton Town Club. Guests were encouraged to wear black in honor of Cousins' favorite color.
