Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital rank among the top 20 in the country.
Two Massachusetts hospitals were among the top 20 U.S. hospitals in Tuesday’s 2024-2025 U.S. News & World Reportranking. Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital made the publication’s Honor Roll, which does not rank by order, as it has previously.
However, the publication did rank hospitals in individual specialties, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital ranked as the top hospital in the country for obstetrics and gynecology.
According to the magazine’s list of top 10 children’s hospitals, Massachusetts is also home to the nation’s second-best children’s hospital. Cincinnati Children’s in Ohio ranked first, with Boston Children’s Hospital ranking second.
U.S. News & World Report has released its annual Best Hospitals rankings for more than 30 years, stating that its mission has been to help guide patients, in consultation with their doctors, to the right hospital when they need care.
U.S. News offers rankings and ratings of three dozen healthcare services, including cancer care, orthopedics, heart bypass surgery, and more.
The magazine also rates hospitals in 20 benchmark procedures and conditions such as knee replacement, heart bypass surgery and — new this year — gynecological cancer surgery. The ranking also includes 15 areas of complex specialty care.
Each hospital’s ratings depend on its patient outcomes, the effectiveness of patient treatment, and other factors such as the quality of patient experience and adequate staffing levels.
The Best Hospitals Honor Roll highlights 20 hospitals that excel across most or all types of care evaluated by U.S. News. Hospitals receive points if they are nationally ranked in the 15 specialties and rated high-performing in any of the 20 procedures and conditions.
