    Red Sox vs. Dodgers: Lineups and starters for the series opener

    After the All-Star break, the Boston Red Sox have traveled across the country to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series at Dodgers Stadium starting on Friday night.

    For the matchup, Boston will send Nick Pivetta to the mound while Los Angeles will counter with Gavin Stone.

    Here's what Alex Cora's lineup will look like for the series opener:

    6. Wilyer Abreu RF

    Pivetta has been solid for Boston in his 14 starts this season, posting a 4.18 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP while striking out 88 batters. He gave up four runs on six hits and two walks and also struck out 10 in his last outing against the Oakland Athletics. Eight Dodgers have recorded hits off of him in his career - Cavan Biggio (6-for-17 with two home runs, three RBIs and a walk), Freddie Freeman (12-for-33 with a home run, six RBIs and two walks), Enrique Hernandez (2-for-6 with an RBI), Teoscar Hernandez (3-for-24 with five RBIs and two walks), Shohei Ohtani (4-for-9 with two home runs and three RBIs), Miguel Rojas (4-for-12), Will Smith (1-for-2 with an RBI) and Chris Taylor (4-for-7 with two home runs and two RBIs).

    Stone has been pretty good for Los Angeles, posting a 3.26 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP while striking out 76 in his 17 starts in 2024. He's given up four runs in each of his last two starts (against the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks).  The only Red Sox to ever get a hit off of him is Connor Wong (1-for-3).
