Red Sox offense failed to capitalize multiple times in 4-1 loss to Dodgers

On Friday night, the Boston Red Sox took on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first of three games at Dodger Stadium, and Alex Cora's squad was handed a 4-1 loss.

Boston's starter, Nick Pivetta, was great throughout the night, tossing six innings of scoreless two-hit baseball while striking out eight. Zack Kelly followed with 1 1/3, allowing two baserunners via walk, forcing Brennan Bernadino to come in to try to close out the eighth. Bernardino, who has seemed to struggle a bit recently, gave up a grand slam to Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers their only four runs of the night while totaling just four hits. Greg Weissert got them through the last 2/3 of an inning.

The Red Sox offense was all right. They recorded nine total hits, but their lone run came off of a Jarren Duran (2-for-4) solo home run in the fifth inning. Tyler O'Neill (3-for-4) was the only other Red Sox to get on base multiple times. Boston just couldn't do anything while threatening, as they finished the night 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

This loss dropped Boston to 53-43 overall and 29-18 on the road. The two teams will meet for the middle game of the series on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET.
