Red Sox reportedly had trade talks with Cubs for starting pitcher

The Boston Red Sox are currently tied for the final Wild Card spot in the American League with 65 games to go in the regular season. And, with the MLB trade deadline rapidly approaching Boston may be looking to add some talent to their roster to help make a push for the playoffs.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale , those talks are already happening, as he reported on Sunday that Boston had discussed a trade with the Chicago Cubs for starting pitcher Jameson Taillon. Nightengale also said that the Cubs haven't decided on a direction at the deadline.

Taillon, 32, has been in the league for nine seasons, pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Cubs. This year, the right-handed pitcher has posted a 3.10 ERA and a 1.161 WHIP while striking out 75 over 16 starts.

With Lucas Giolito and Garrett Whitlock both out for the season, Boston could really use the help in the rotation if they want to make a run, and Taillon would probably be cheaper than some other options at the deadline. If the Red Sox were to acquire his services, they'd have him under team control for another two seasons after this one.
