Red sox manager Alex Cora explains ejection vs. Rockies

The Colorado Rockies handed the Boston Red Sox their fourth straight loss on Monday in a 9-8 battle at Coors Field that took 12 innings.

Between the 11th and 12th innings, Red Sox manager Alex Cora was ejected for arguing with home plate umpire Mark Wegner, however, it was much earlier in the night that Cora was riled up.

In the seventh inning, Red Sox pitcher Josh Winckowski should've recorded a strikeout against Jacob Stallings on a 2-2 pitch that was called a ball. On the very next pitch, Stallings knocked in the go-ahead run on a double.

Cora waited for innings before blowing off some steam.

After the contest ended, Cora explained his frustrations with reporters.

“We didn’t agree with the 2-2 pitch to Stallings, and there was a lot of back and forth,” Cora said ( via. NESN ). “(The umpires) have the toughest job in baseball. They do. He was right (to eject me). Mark was like, ‘I’m not perfect. I’m giving my best.’

“We all are. But, thought it was strike three, and then the double. They got the lead, and I felt there was a pitch missed in the previous inning, and he did what he’s supposed to do. You argue balls and strikes; you’re gonna get thrown out.”

Boston needs to get back in the win column, and they'll have a chance to do just that on Tuesday in their second game against Colorado.
