The Boston Red Sox met the Colorado Rockies on met at Coors Field on Wednesday for the final game of their three-game series, and they were promptly handed a 20-7 loss.

Boston's arms were horrible, starting with Nick Pivetta, who allowed eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in just 2 2/3 innings. He was followed by Bailey Horn, who allowed five more runs on four hits and a walk in his 1 1/13 inning of work.

After Cam Booser got through a scoreless, hitless inning, Chase Anderson gave up six runs, but only one was earned due to more errors, as the Red Sox's defense struggled mightily, committing four errors on the night. Brennan Bernadino gave up a run in his one inning, and first baseman Dom Smith closed it out with a scoreless inning on the mound.

While the injuries in the bullpen have put Alex Cora's club in a bad spot at this point in the year, a poor effort from a starter and a gross defensive effort doesn't help.

The Red Sox bats were solid, driving in six runs on 11 hits while striking out just six times. Jarren Duran (3-for-5) drove in three runs on a two-run triple and solo home run while David Hamilton (1-for-4 with a walk), Connor Wong (0-for-3) and Romy Gonzalez (1-for-4) brought in one run each.

Rafael Devers (3-for-3) and Ceddanne Rafaela (2-for-4) joined Duran as the only Red Sox with multi-hit games.

The most entertaining point of the contest was the benches-clearing scuffle early in the game started by Red Sox catcher Reese McGuire and Rockies starter Cal Quantrill.

This loss drops Boston to 54-47 overall and 30-22 on the road. They'll have Thursday off before returning to action at Fenway for a battle with the New York Yankees, who could be just 4.5 games ahead of the Red Sox depending on how their Wednesday night matchup with the New York Mets goes.
