When you win your opening game in the 2024 Summer Olympics in blowout fashion, it feels like you should be able to avoid tough questions about your coaching. However, for Steve Kerr, his controversial Team USA decision against Team Serbia is drawing some heat from fans on social media.

While Team USA beat Serbia 110-84 on Sunday afternoon behind impressive performances from Kevin Durant and LeBron James, it was a 'DNP Coaches Decision' for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum that left many fans surprised.

The recent NBA Finals champion was relegated to the bench for the entire game, meanwhile, his Boston teammate Derrick White got some minutes in the second half of the blowout.

While it was probably a decision that was born out of matchups and strategy, one notable NBA fan — author Shea Serrano — is questioning whether all of this was part of an elaborate plan for Kerr, the Golden State Warriors coach, to create some unrest in the Boston Celtics locker room.

    It's not a bad theory.

If you'll remember, Kerr was one of the decision-makers who brought White onto the team rather than NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown, which was a decision that brought out a ton of controversy.

Now, if this theory is to be believed, Kerr is playing White over Tatum in the Olympics to create some unrest within the ranks of the Celtics.

Is it crazy? Probably, but it's at least a fun conspiracy theory that we will be able to watch play out over the next couple of weeks as Team USA continues its chase of the Gold Medal.
