Count sports media personality Stephen A. Smith among those who were left absolutely incensed over Team USA head coach Steve Kerr’s decision to leave Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum on the bench for the entire game against Serbia last Sunday.

In an episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show , Smith did not hold back on his opinion about Tatum getting turned into a “waterboy.” He clearly did not buy Kerr’s reasoning behind Tatum’s benching.

Kerr said after Team USA’s 110-84 win over Serbia that he just went with what he believed to be the best combinations on the floor based on the matchups.

Again, Smith did not accept Kerr’s logic.

“Steve Kerr, that's some straight bulls--t. You gotta be kidding me. And to have him go through an entire NBA season and then go through the playoffs and capture a championship and still take time in his offseason to join Team USA and to have a champion riding the bench, like he's some d--n waterboy. You've got to be kidding me."

Even with Tatum sitting on the bench, Team USA took care of business against the European powerhouse. Kevin Durant fired 23 points off the bench, while the ageless LeBron James posted 21 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.

Tatum will get to see action at last in Paris this Wednesday, with Kerr promising that he’ll play the former Duke Blue Devils star against South Sudan.
