Recapping every move the Red Sox made at the MLB trade deadline

The Boston Red Sox made a few moves at the deadline to increase their chances to make a playoff appearance. Here are the players they acquired:

Luis Garcia, LA Angels: Garcia is what the Sox needed most; a reliever that can pitch late game and get big outs, without giving up runs. While he has a 3.71 ERA, Garcia has only given up two runs in six weeks.

Lucas Sims, Cincinnati Reds: Sims is another late game reliever that the Sox desperately needed. His ERA is a 3.57, but he also has only given up two runs in the past month, six in the past two.

Quinn Priester, Pittsburgh Pirates: Priester is a young pitching prospect that can fill out either reliever or starter for the Sox. They did have to give up a top prospect in Nick Yorke for him, but it looks like the Sox believe they have the infield depth to get rid of some. Even though Priester has an 5.04 ERA, he is still a prospect, and pitching coach Andrew Bailey can probably shape him into a star.

James Paxton, LA Dodgers: Paxton was a former Red Sox last year, and he is most welcomed back this year. Paxton becomes the fifth man in the starting rotation, which was left open after Garrett Whitlock got injured for the season. Paxton was a great pickup after the Dodgers DFA'd him.

Danny Jansen, Toronto Blue Jays: Jansen is another right-handed bat that the Sox needed, and is a possible replacement for Reese McGuire, as McGuire is an ok catcher, but his bat this season has been worse than usual. Jansen is hitting .219 this year, while McGuire just got his average up to .209.

With these acquisitions, the Sox got what they wanted from the deadline; quality relievers to fill out the bullpen, and a right-handed bat in a lineup full of lefties. The Sox will premiere this full team either tonight or tomorrow against the Seattle Mariners.
