The Boston Red Sox have moved around a lot of pieces over the last week or so, especially in their bullpen, and one of the decisions that was made was to designate reliever Chase Anderson for assignment on Sunday.

Now, according to MassLive's Chris Cotillo , Anderson has passed through waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester. Anderson has instead decided to opt for free agency, so he'll be free to sign with any team.

Anderson, 36, signed with the Red Sox in March and appeared in 27 games for the team this year, posting a 4.85 ERA (5.59 FIP) and a 1.250 WHIP while striking out 35 batters over 52 innings of work.

Anderson's last outing came against the New York Yankees, where he gave up three runs (two earned) in an inning which followed another outing against the Colorado Rockies where he gave up six runs (one earned) in one inning.
