Sports analyst calls out Jayson Tatum for being a hypocrite and a "colossal pain"

Boston Celtics superstar forward Jayson Tatum was called out today by radio host, sports analyst and college coach Doug Gottlieb for his comments about being humbled by not playing against Serbia. Gottlieb went on his show and berated Tatum for being hypocritical about how he was humbled when he didn’t play in the first Team USA game, yet he listed all his accomplishments this past NBA season, and then when he did play, he played very poorly.

Gottlieb started with Team USA coach Steve Kerr’s comments about Tatum starting against South Sudan after not playing at all against Serbia. “I don’t care what Steve Kerr says about Jayson Tatum starting, I can’t imagine that was originally the plan,” said Gottlieb. “Did I think he’d play? Yes, I think all the complaining made it like ‘fine we’ll start him’; he didn’t play particularly well.” Tatum only had four points starting against South Sudan.

Gottlieb went on to distinguish the difference between the NBA and international play. “What makes you a great NBA player does not necessarily make you a great international player.” Gottlieb went on to talk about Tatum’s humbling experience. “How it reads to me, I’m sitting here as a coach, Jayson Tatum seems like a colossal pain.”

Gottlieb then referenced how when Tatum’s Celtics teammate and NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown did not make the team, Tatum didn’t really care. However, when Tatum didn’t play, he didn’t give a team answer, like "I'll do anything for us to win", instead he said it was a humbling experience. Gottlieb called baloney.

“It’s not humbling, you have not been humbled,” Gottlieb remarked. “Because then you read off a resume like any of us care. Tell me if this sounds humble to you: ‘win a championship, cover of NBA2K, cover of Sports Illustrated, it was definitely a humbling experience,’ that’s not humbling! You have not been humbled!”

Tatum will once again be on the bench in Team USA’s next game against Puerto Rico on August 3rd at 11:15am EST.
