A Rockbridge County man who led law enforcement on a pursuit in Bedford that led to his shooting by an officer was sentenced June 18 to 20 years in prison. Barry Lee Derr, of Fairfield, was driving in Botetourt County just after 11 a.m. Feb. 11 when a Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office deputy tried to stop the SUV for reckless driving, Bedford County Commonwealth’s Attorney wrote in a legal opinion in March that found the Bedford officer used appropriate force.
