BOTTINEAU, ND ( KXNET ) — The nine-hole golf course in Maxbass is open once again after nearly 20 years of closure.

The course is fairly small. Each hole is a par three, and its longest hole is 184 yards to the pin, so it’s you likely won’t need your driver to play it. Putting is also different since the Maxbass course has sand greens.

“Farden Construction are really big community members in Maxbass,” explained Community Member Lexi Rosenthal, “and they have been the ones who led the charge for putting the golf course back and restoring it. They brought the flags and rakes and did the greens and the mowing. They are the ones breathing life back into the golf course.”

Rosenthal says if you come to town to play a round, they ask that you rake the greens when you’re finished.

Maxbass has a population of less than 100 people, but the golf course has hosted tournaments since about 1984 — and Rosenthal says this is something they want to bring back next summer.

“We have a photo album that records all the way back to 1997,” she stated. “We are looking to have a fun tournament in 2025 in June.”

Rosenthal says while they’re still planning next year’s tournament, they’re still looking for the fried chicken recipe that was somehow lost after the last festival.

Maxbass is just over 40 miles northeast of Minot a few miles east of Highway 83. You can find the course at the community park.
