A former Moët Hennessy mixology ambassador is extending his expertise to the fragrance world with a trio of luxury perfumes inspired by Mexico's most cherished spirit. Maison Solís, named in honor of founder Joseph D. Solís, has unveiled what it claims to be the world's first agave-inspired fragrance line. Available in Blanco, Reposado and Añejo varieties, the tequila-inflected scents were created in collaboration with sommelier turned perfumer
Ethan Turner . Solís told VinePair that inspiration began with a dozen of his favorite tequilas. After six months of trial and error, the team managed to crack the code on three "scent stories," which they believe accurately recreate the real deal. In place of the nose, taste and finish typically used to describe spirits, each perfume is categorized according to its top, heart and base. The Blanco, for instance, boasts a top of lime, bergamot and grapefruit, a heart of cognac eaux de vie and a base of coconut; the Añejo reportedly mingles jasmine with aged rum, agave essence, cedar wood and patchouli. Outside of the fragrance world, Solís serves as the CEO of Sol Hospitality Group and a judge at the LA Spirits Awards. He says that Maison Solís is the culmination of his life's work, as well as a nod to his Mexican-Filipino heritage.
"With over 25 years in the luxury wine & spirits space inclusive of agave, I developed this fragrance line to honor the nectar of the Gods and evoke the emotional journey it takes us on — from the crisp citrus notes of Blanco to the luxurious depths of aged Añejo," Solís remarked in a news release.
In this case, another commonality between liquor and perfume is the eye-watering price tag. The Blanco, Reposado and Añejo are priced at $110, $120 and $140 respectively, with the additional option to buy a $60 Discovery Set that includes a 5-milliliter sampling of each. The brand made its global debut at this year's Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans, where it hosted a series of "sensorial scent experiences" paired with tequila tastings.
