A scary situation had a happy ending in Boulder on June 11 when a camper was allegedly stolen while two people slept inside of it.

A police investigation revealed that someone had allegedly stolen the truck the camper was attached to, not aware that the couple and their dog were asleep inside.

Realizing their presence was unnoticed, the couple stayed quiet to avoid alerting the suspected vehicle thief and made a call for help.

By 3 a.m., officers spotted the vehicle on Kalmia Avenue and activated their lights and sirens to make the stop. The truck didn't pullover though, and instead sped up.

It wouldn't be until the driver of the truck pulled into a dead-end street that the chase would end. The driver was ordered out of the truck and contact was made with the couple in the camper.

Despite the scary situation, the couple and dog were alright aside from being "shaken up" by the incident.

The driver of the truck had been previously convicted of motor vehicle theft and was booked on charges of second-degree motor vehicle theft, reckless endangerment, vehicular eluding, carrying a concealed knife, and failure to appear for court related to a prior theft case. The suspect had previously been arrested for theft in three jurisdictions, including Boulder in March.
