DENVER ( KDVR ) — Boulder police arrested a man on Wednesday in connection to two separate shootings during the past week.

Police identified the suspect as John Paul Gaudreau of Boulder. He is facing charges of reckless endangerment, violation of a protection order, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and a domestic violence sentence enhancement charge. He could also face additional charges, Boulder police said.

The Boulder Police Department said the first shooting occurred Friday night in the 1600 block of 28th Street. The agency received a report of someone hearing gunshots at about 9 p.m., but no victims were found when officers arrived.

Although there were limited leads, investigators followed up on several of them and were able to locate a shooting victim. The man was shot in the shoulder but did not seek medical attention until Wednesday. Police said Gaudreau knew the victim in the Friday night shooting.

The second shooting occurred Wednesday just after 2 a.m., according to the police department, when a man was taken in a personal vehicle to a hospital with a gunshot wound. He told police he was shot by an unknown male. However, officers had a possible suspect.

That led officers to the suspect’s home located in the 1700 block of Baseline Road. Officers connected Wednesday’s shooting with Friday’s and activated multiple teams to take the possibly armed suspect into custody . Officers reportedly arrested him at about 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Officers also said they recovered at least one firearm.

Wednesday’s shooting is believed to have stemmed from an argument, but police said that the two men did not know each other.

“Crimes such as these don’t happen often in our community. When they do, they generate fear and are extremely concerning to our agency, and we will take the perpetrators into custody as soon as possible,” Interim Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said in a release. “Since Friday, our detectives have been diligently working to identify the individuals involved in that case.”

The shootings remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Byars at byarsS@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1970. The case number is 24-6285.
