Deion Sanders still making the same excuses when it comes to high school recruiting for the Colorado Buffaloes

Deion Sanders loves to play the victim coming up with all kinds of excuses when it comes to high school football recruiting and the Colorado Buffaloes program. He has notoriously refused to engage in the most basic recruiting activities since becoming an FBS football coach, and despite all the criticism continues parroting the same empty excuses.

Since joining Colorado, Deion Sanders--despite all his fame and hype--has signed just three Top 200 high school football recruits according to the 247Sports Composite and two of them left the program after their true freshman season. Five star Cormani McClain and Coach Prime clearly didn't get along from the start as Sanders threw him under the bus before the season even began last fall. And four star running back Dylan Edwards was quick to depart Colorado for Kansas State this off-season. Now the Buffaloes are on pace to disappoint in high school recruiting again, relying on transfers almost exclusively.

    Deion Sanders makes same excuses

Coach Prime joined yet another show this week after making a handful of other non-recruiting-related excuses at Big 12 media days. When he spoke with Phillip Dukes of On3 Sports he went back to his old faithful complaint again (as you can see in the post below) when it came to recruiting.

"In the fall it's tough because we're playing. And that means I gotta go on a Friday. We got all kind of activities and commitments to my team on Friday. That's tough...I would love to...but they treat me a little different dog. What I mean by that is, say I go see this kid. What [do] you think those other coaches [are] going to say to those kids?"

Deion Sanders was again talking about the fact that if he goes and visits a recruit other coaches around the country will then use that as a negative recruiting tactic, saying that Prime then doesn't care about other specific recruits. Sanders somehow seriously thinks this is a novel concept exclusive to him. No. That's how recruiting works Mr. Prime .

Everyone is recruiting against everyone else and using every little piece of information at their disposal to gain an edge. That poor excuse for an excuse just doesn't hold any weight at all, but he's playing the victim as if he's the only coach in the world that gets "treated that way".

It's always about him. It's always about how "they treat me different", or "I'm judged on a different scale", or "my wins are different than your wins" with Deion Sanders. All three of those are real quotes from Coach Prime used this week alone at Big 12 media days. No, Deion. You're a college football coach. You're expected to recruit at the most basic levels possible without tossing half your roster out the window on a whim. You're expected to win games. And you're failing in both those areas.

Maybe Sanders will eventually figure out how to build a college football program, but for now all he seems to have figured out how to do is complain, make excuses, and play the victim. Hopefully for Colorado Buffaloes' fans he can turn the program around, eventually truly making them "everyone's Super Bowl" like Shedeur Sanders asserted this week. However sad it is for now, they're just some team that won one conference game in 2023 and is slated to finish outside the Top 100 in recruiting again next spring.
