A male was walking down a bike path near Boulder's Scott Carpenter Park on July 15 when someone rode up on a bike and stabbed him in broad daylight at about 11 a.m. After the report of the act of violence was received, law enforcement swarmed the area, but was unable to locate a suspect.

A July 17 update from the City of Boulder reports that a person of interest in the case was arrested later that night on unrelated charges, matching the description of the suspect.

When the man was arrested, he was reportedly in possession of a large knife, close to 300 fentanyl pills, and nearly three grams of methamphetamine. The suspect has since been identified as 33-year-old Demetrius Alford, charged with possession with intent to distribute as a special offender and possession of a deadly weapon. Alford's potential connection with the stabbing case remains under investigation.

Anyone with information that may be related to the stabbing case has been asked to contact Detective Byars at 303-441-1970.

Scott Carpenter Park is located near University of Colorado Boulder's East Campus at the intersection of 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue.

All suspects mentioned are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
