The Colorado Buffaloes have high hopes heading into the 2024 college football schedule. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter are being hyped as potential darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidates, and the Colorado football roster has more talent from top to bottom in year two under Coach Prime. The Buffs' current projected win total is 5.5 games, signaling a lukewarm feeling from the oddsmakers on Colorado's chances at contending in the new-look Big 12 Conference. The Colorado football depth chart will have a different look in 2024. In fact, the program added 42 players via the Transfer Portal and signed 13 from the high school and junior college levels. Over 40 players left the program and transferred to other schools.

With so much roster turnover, there are several position battles that will be decided during Colorado football fall camp. Priority No. 1 for Coach Prime and his staff this offseason was getting better on the offensive line. In 2023, Shedeur Sanders was the most-sacked FBS quarterback, and the constant pounding caused him to miss the team's regular season finale against Utah. All five starters from Colorado's offensive line in 2023 either graduated or transferred, so there will be new faces in the team's OL room this fall.

Former NFL offensive tackle Phil Loadholt was hired to be the team's new offensive line coach, replacing Boll O'Boyle. Loadholt has been tasked with finding the right five players to form CU's starting offensive line and getting them to gel before the team's season-opener on August 29. The most notable name of the new players in the mix is true freshman Jordan Seaton, who was a five-star recruit and the third-highest rated player to ever sign with Colorado, according to 247Sports. Another priority for the Buffs this offseason was improving the team's rushing attack. Much like they did with their offensive line, the Buffs did a near complete overhaul of the running back position on their roster. The team's top four rushers from 2023 (Dylan Edwards, Anthony Hankerson, Sy'veon Wilkerson, and Alton McCaskill) all transferred to other programs, leaving former walk-on Charlie Offerdahl as the only returning running back who saw any action in 2023.

Transfers Dallan Hayden and Isaiah Augustave, and true freshman signees Micah Welch and Brandon Hood have all joined Offerdahl in the competition to be the Buffs' starting running back against North Dakota State. "[RB coach Gary Harrell] wants to identify two top backs going into the season, who will receive the bulk of the carries. It was the same approach he had going into the 2023 season, but due to offensive line struggles and scheme complications, the Buffs ground game never got churning," Munsterteiger wrote on BuffStampede.
