New Colorado Coach Makes Odd Admission About Son Of Deion Sanders

This may feel like déjà vu, but heading into the college football season there are plenty of moving pieces at the Deion Sanders-led Colorado football program.
The Buffs went transfer portal fishing again this offseason, bringing in nearly 50 new faces, and also will have two new coordinators heading into the season again. Pat Shurmur was promoted from an analyst role to being the offensive coordinator last season, but that wasn't the initial plan going in. At defensive coordinator, Sanders went with former Cincinnati Bengals safeties coach Robert Livingston.
It'll be his first time coordinating a defense, which may also mean it's his first time having to talk to the media frequently. Following a recent practice, he likely realized how tricky navigating those waters is, especially when it comes to the star of the defense and son of Sanders, Shilo Sanders.
As seen in recent footage from Colorado's first practice, Sanders was spotted wearing a yellow non-contact jersey during practice. Something that he weighed in on in a Reach the People video, saying he didn't need it.
"I know they got me in this dumb yellow jersey, even though I don’t even need to be in one," Sanders said .
However, when Livingston was asked about Sanders' status he sort of dodged the question, and appeared to be not quite certain of his status. Either that, or he was specifically told not to divulge that information.
“It’s above my pay grade,” Livingston said . “You’re gonna have to ask the head coach. Yeah, we’re in a good spot there.”
It was reported back in May that Sanders had shoulder surgery and could miss up to six months, which Sanders himself denied.
“Yeah I’m feeling good,” Sanders told BuffZone during Big 12 media days. “I’m not missing nothing. I don’t know who wrote that.”
Only time will tell if he will actually have to miss time, but Colorado would definitely love to have their leading tackler back and healthy to start the year.
Sanders started his career at South Carolina where he committed to as a three-star recruit. After spending a couple of seasons there, he then followed his father to what was his first coaching job at the college level, Jackson State. Sanders played two seasons there and actually earned second-team All-SWAC in 2021. He then hit the portal again, following his father and brother to Colorado prior to last season.
The hard-hitting safety racked up 70 total tackles and a pick-six last season.
