SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A wife has been charged with multiple offenses, accused of setting her husband on fire. Formal charges of first-degree felony aggravated arson, second-degree felony obstruction of justice, and two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, a third-degree felony, were filed in 3rd District Court Thursday against a 31-year-old woman, whose name is being withheld due to mental health issues..

Utah State fires coach Blake Anderson for 'significant violations of his contractual obligations'
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Utah State fired coach Blake Anderson for “significant violations of his contractual obligations” on Thursday, 16 days after the school informed him that he would be dismissed following an external review that found he failed to comply with Title IX policies regarding the reporting of sexual misconduct cases. “These reporting requirements include a prohibition on employees outside the USU Office of Equity from investigating issues of sexual misconduct, including domestic violence,” the school said. “Additionally, Anderson failed to manage the team in a manner that reflects USU’s academic values.” Nate Dreiling, who had been Utah State’s defensive coordinator and defensive ends coach, was elevated on July 2 to interim coach for the upcoming season. Associate vice president and deputy athletic director of external affairs Jerry Bovee and football director of player development and community Austin Albrecht were fired on July 2 “for violations of university policies related to the reporting of sexual and domestic violence and failures of professional responsibilities.”
Switchpoint receives $3.8M from Church of Jesus Christ, Walker and Miller funds
SALT LAKE CITY — Switchpoint, a nonprofit organization that combats homelessness and poverty, announced $3.8 million in new funding Thursday. The funds came from the Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund ($1.8 million), the Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation ($1 million) and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ($1 million).
Utah, Arizona fires: Containment grows; smoke expected to ease
