A 37-year-old Houma man is jailed on narcotics and weapons charges after a traffic stop in Bourg, Louisiana Sunday night.

According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies saw a driver commit several traffic violations, and upon pulling him over, saw the pump-action shotgun with the stock removed in the vehicle. Deputies say they recognized the suspect, Shawn David Jennings, from previous interactions and knew he had a felony record. They also reported "a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle."

In addition to the shotgun, deputies say a search of Jennings' vehicle revealed several illicit drugs.

Authorities booked Jennings into the Terrebonne Parish jail on charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, possession of controlled dangerous substances, illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of illegal drugs, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

"This incident is another example of how proactive Law Enforcement tactics can have a positive impact in our community," said Sheriff Tim Soignet. "I am proud to work with such a tremendous group of motivated men and women, who dedicate their lives to making our community a safer place."
