Iowa’s new abortion law is set to take effect Monday morning. The law passed last year, but a judge initially blocked it from being enforced. Last month, the Iowa Supreme Court ruled there is no constitutional right to an abortion in the state and ordered the hold to be lifted. A district court judge now says the law will go into effect Monday at 8 a.m. The law bans an abortion once fetal cardiac activity is detected, which is typically around six weeks into a pregnancy. There are exceptions for rape, incest, fetal abnormality, or if the pregnancy endangers the mother’s life.

Spring Crest and Painted Woods West neighborhoods in Waukee to get new playgrounds in 2025
Waukee's parks and recreation department revealed the designs for the two new playgrounds to be located at Spring Crest and Painted Woods West neighborhoods in western Waukee. The two playgrounds are the first in their respective communities and both are expected to open in the fall of 2025. MC Snacks Receiving Ribbon Cutting on Friday from Perry Chamber
A local business in the City of Perry will be home to a ribbon cutting on Friday. Perry Chamber Director Lynsi Pasutti tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the organization is traveling to MC Snacks Friday afternoon at 3pm. MC Snacks’ location is at Caboose Park, 1101 1st Avenue, in Perry and operates from a caboose railcar. Pasutti describes that the business handles sweet treats as it sits along the Raccoon River Valley Trail.

10 Squared Women Of Guthrie County Donates Over $14,000 To Stuart PD Community Programs

The 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County recently presented their second-quarter donation to the Stuart Police Department Community Programs (SPDCP). The decision to support the group was made during the group’s May 28 meeting in Panora. Following presentations from three local organizations, the group announced their $14,400 total. SPDCP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit incorporated in 2022 that focuses on improving relationships between law enforcement and the community through outreach, education, and youth activities. Their programs include Books & Badges, Bicycle Rodeo, National Donut Day, Summer Youth Programs, National Night Out, Shop with A Cop, and many others. Sgt. Katie Guisinger says, “Funding for community programming and youth activities can sometimes be hard to come by, and this donation will allow SPDCP to not only enhance our current programming but also to expand with new programming.” Since its creation in 2017, the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County has donated $343,050 to various local projects. Blue Zoo faces allegations of 'cruel interactions,' suspends exhibits after bamboo shark bite
A West Des Moines aquarium is facing calls to shut down after it euthanized a shark that bit an employee earlier this week. Blue Zoo, a for-profit aquarium, has been open in the Villages at Jordan Creek Town Center since May. CLIVE, Iowa — Clive Police Chief Michael Venema is officially retiring after almost 40 years in law enforcement. His last day with the department will be July 31. “It has been an honor to serve the Clive community alongside the department's dedicated and professional officers and staff," Venema said in a statement. "Working for the Clive community has been a rewarding experience these last 12 years."
Road Construction Project to Close Part of 50th Street in WDM This Weekend
(West Des Moines, IA) -- A road construction will close part of 50th Street in West Des Moines this weekend. 50th Street between I-235 and Ashworth Road will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th. The closures will be from 5am to 7pm. Detours will be posted during the re-paving project.
