City Council July 16 Meeting Summary

Sanford city councilors approved a new business for the airport, heard updates on local public works projects and recognized public safety workers at their regular meeting July 16. All members were present, with Executive Administrator Lorisa Ricketts attending via Zoom.
Speedway 95 – Wednesday July 24 RESULTS
After 2 weeks of cancellations due to inclement weather, Speedway 95 was finally able to race on a Wednesday night. First on the agenda were the make-up races from the July 10 rain out, which were originally scheduled for July 17, but were rained out again. On July 10, the only feature completed before the program was washed out was the Road Runners. Donny Silva of Hudson took the win. Nicholas Wark of Etna finished 2nd, followed by Seth Woodard of Plymouth, Doug Woodard of Plymouth and Marcus Sapiel of Bradley in that order. On July 24, the make-up races for the July 10 rain-out were completed prior to the beginning of the regularly scheduled July 24 program.
Rockport names members for wastewater task force, asks Camden to create companion committee
ROCKPORT — At a special meeting July 23, four Rockport residents and one Camden resident were named by the Rockport Select Board to a new task force with a specific mission: To study the costs and benefits of a collaborative approach for improving wastewater treatment systems in the Towns of Rockport and Camden, including a municipal utility district.

Southport approves 2 land use ordinances at special town meeting
Southport voters overwhelming approved two amendments to the land use ordinance during a July 24 special town meeting. Just over 60 voters approved the two amendments. One regards state LD 2003, which requires municipalities to take action in creating more affordable housing. The law prohibits municipalities from limiting housing to one unit per lot and allows for less restrictive ordinances to meet state goals.

Canaveral National Seashore now has an audio-described visitor center brochure, thanks to Young Sound Seekers and more than 20 Stetson students. The idea for the brochure began after two Young Sound Seekers directors (Eve Payor of Atlantic Center for the Arts and Nathan Wolek, PhD, professor of Digital Arts and Music Technology at Stetson) met one of the creators behind the UniDescription project at a conference in August 2022.
