King and Spanish Mackerel port meetings continue in South Carolina and Georgia
A series of port meetings continues in July and August, providing a unique opportunity for fishermen and others interested in the King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel fisheries to share their perspectives and vision for the future. The port meetings are being hosted by the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, and state partners along the Atlantic coast in 2024. Ph.D. student lands prestigious Gilliam Fellowship
For the first time and from a record number of applicants, a Clemson Ph.D. student has been named a 2024 Gilliam Fellow by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Jakini Kauba, a Ph.D. student in mathematics, and her advisor, Keisha Cook, join the Gilliam cohort of 50 student/advisor pairs selected this year. Cook is an assistant professor in the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences in Clemson’s College of Science.
Upstate Verizon stores giving away school backpacks
With the school year fast approaching, Verizon Wireless stores across the Upstate are participating in the 12th annual “Schools Rock Backpack Giveaway” July 28 at 1 p.m. The event is hosted by Verizon authorized retailer Round Room. It will be give away more than $3 million worth of backpacks nationwide. Any backpacks not picked up will be donated to local schools.
