Bessemer City leads North Gaston 8-7 after lightning suspended play
BESSEMER CITY, N.C. (WBTV) - The Bessemer City Yellowjackets took an 8-7 lead over North Gaston in the first half of their week-two matchup when lightning forced the game to be postponed. The two teams will resume play Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Bessemer City High School.
Yellow Jackets home opener, area football games rescheduled or cancelled due to weather
Fort Mill, SC — Lightening and heavy rain delayed several of last night’s regional high school football games. Fort Mill High School’s home opener against Chester was called before it even started and will not be rescheduled. Fort Mill (1-0) opened their season last week with a dominant win over Ballantyne Ridge High School. The Yellow Jacket’s next game will be at home on September 6 against Blythewood.

Olympic Medalist Kayln Brown Honored by Gastonia Baseball Club
Olympic medalist and Ranlo native Kayln Brown was welcomed home by the Gastonia Baseball Club with a celebration at Caromont Health Park. Brown, who won gold and silver medals with the U.S. Women’s Track Team, credits her faith, dreams, and goals for keeping her motivated. The former Mallard Creek High School star expressed her desire to inspire other kids to pursue their dreams. Brown will soon begin her sophomore year at the University of Arkansas.
Copperhead golfers win strange outing (Aug. 29 Roundup)
ROCK HILL – The Catawba Ridge girls’ golf team won a strangely contested match at Waterford Golf Club Thursday over Northwestern and Nation Ford. The three teams played just seven holes instead of the normal nine-hole match and was forced to stop because of darkness. The teams didn’t start until 6 p.m. instead of the normal 4 p.m. tee times, due to other golfers in front of them playing league matches at the club.
Rain, lightning dampens evening of football
It’s not too often that football games get rained out, but that is exactly what happened Friday. All three Fort Mill based high schools had their games canceled and/or postponed. Nation Ford did get part of their game in. Fort Mill and Catawba Ridge didn’t get their games started.
