Brenda Lucas: Community news for Wednesday, July 17
RETIREMENT: Lyndall Harned, Boyd County Extension Agent for agriculture and natural resources since 1997, is retiring, effective Aug. 3. He turned 65 years old July 6. Lyndall earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocational education from University of Kentucky and taught vocational agriculture in Florida and was an agent in Leslie County. He’s no stranger to Ashland as his wife graduated from Paul G. Blazer High School. He has already began working for River Cities Harvest and hopes to attend more UK ball games. He also enjoys gardening and woodworking. Best wishes on a retirement of relaxation, rest and enjoyment.
Prep baseball: Collins leads The Herald-Dispatch All-Tri-State team
When Boyd County beat Cabell Midland 3-1 in high school baseball on March 21 in Ona, more than half of The Herald-Dispatch All-Tri-State first team was on display. The Lions and Knights flooded the all-area squad with talent. Five players from Cabell Midland and four from Boyd County made the first team. The second unit featured four Knights. Spring Valley also was well-represented, with four first-team picks and three second-teamers.

KSP CHECKPOINTS ANNOUNCED FOR JULY, 2024
ASHLAND, Ky. (July 1, 2024) – The Kentucky State Police, Ashland Post 14, which provides coverage for Boyd, Carter, Lawrence and Carter counties, will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. These checkpoints will be conducted in an effort to enforce the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Special attention will be paid to seatbelt usage, sobriety, insurance and registration violations.
