New group working to make Boyle County more resilient
A group has formed in Danville with the specific goal of making their county more resilient in the face of the climate crisis and all the changes it will bring. We speak with Kathy Miles and Dan Nolet about the impressive start this group has made.
Elusive slot receiver makes Friday night call for WVU
In a bit of a surprise commitment, Boyle County (Ky.) wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry chose West Virginia over in-state Kentucky on Friday night. Quisenberry, predicted by many to be headed for Lexington and the Wildcat program, instead chose WVU. Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Eastern Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Toledo and Kent State were also on board with offers. The schools on his offer list were impressed with his overall athletic ability, which could be first on display as an inside receiver for the Mountaineers, but the allure of playing for head coach Neal Brown, who attended Quisenberry's Boyle County High School, proved to be one of several deciding factors in his decision. West Virginia also overcame the presence of former wide receiver Daikiel Shorts, now the wide receivers coach at Kentucky, in snaring Quisenberry's pledge.
Three area softball players honored by KSCA
Molly Abney of Garrard County was named the 12th Region Player of the Year by the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association. Abney, a senior, batted .407 for Garrard this season with four home runs, 23 RBIs and 21 stolen bases in 22 attempts. She is one of three local players to receive recognition from the KSCA. Kentucky attorney general opposes syringe exchanges despite evidence of their efficacy
The leader of the agency that makes grants from the state’s opioid settlements declined to vote for a grant with more money for a syringe-exchange program, saying Attorney General Russell Coleman does not support such programs – which are considered a key tool for reducing harm to people who inject drugs.
