The Rainbow City Police Department reported on Facebook that the body of Roger Dale Whisman, a missing Ashville man, was found in Canoe Creek around 12:49 p.m. on Saturday. The recovery location was downstream from Rainbow Drive and Riddles Bend Road near the St. Clair County line, where a report of a possible sighting of Whisman was received by the department on Friday just before 4 p.m. Subsequently, police, firefighters, and the Etowah County Dive Team conducted a search, which was halted as darkness fell on Friday and resumed on Saturday morning with the participation of multiple agencies.

The Etowah and St. Clair County sheriff's offices, along with the Gadsden, Glencoe, and Southside fire departments, the Pell City Dive Team, Daphne Search and Rescue, the Gadsden-Etowah County Emergency Management Agency, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, including SBI, air, and marine personnel, all participated in the operation.

Whisman's body underwent transportation to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy, as the investigation into the incident continues.
