Props to Lakewood Ranch High’s Technology Student Association.

Represented by recent grad Mason Engelsburg and upcoming juniors Zachariah Kersey and Gavin Moore, the Mustangs’ TSA finished fifth in the nation in the Webmaster event at the annual conference last month in Orlando. The Webmaster project focused on green energy initiatives to reduce the negative effects of fossil fuels.

Robert Collier is the LRHS TSA adviser and vocational teacher.

TSA is a national organization of students engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics projects.

    · Speaking of LRHS, former Mustang Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie brings quite the NFL resume to Bayshore High’s football coaching staff.

A first-round pick out of Tennessee State by the Arizona Cardinals in 2008, DRC played 12 years in the league at cornerback. He was a Pro Bowler in 2009 and 2015 and made second-team All-Pro in 2016.

Besides three seasons in Arizona, he spent two in Philadelphia and one in Denver, where he played in Super Bowl XLVIII, followed by four seasons with the New York Giants after signing a $35 million free agent deal in 2014. He also spent a season in Oakland and another in Washington.

DRC was also a recent Hall of Fame inductee at Tennessee State, where he was a 2007 All-America.

Bayshore recently named Ace Sanders, a former Manatee High star with NFL experience, as head coach.

    · Uh, oh! Dan Schaffer is one year shy of the Big 7-0!

    · That’s 46 years of wedded bliss for Linda and Robert Boone.

    · And 45 for Karen and Dan Weaver.

    · And 23 for Monica and John DeLesline.

    · And 12 for Scooter and Christina Fagan.

    · The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Explorers did well at the recent Florida Sheriff's Explorers Association Summer State Conference competition in Orlando. Mason Dagostino took second in tyro rim fire and Adey Andrews, Mason Dagostino, Daniel Diaz-Macedo and Garren Thomas were second in crime scene investigations.

    · Retired Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Fire Marshal Dean Heinbach got his first ever hole-in-one recently, acing the 126-yard 16th hole with a 9-iron at Peridia Golf and Country Club.

    · And Pittsburgh Pirates historian Jim Trdinich hit the Big 6-0!
