A citywide water outage left residents and businesses within the city of Bradenton without water on Sunday morning.

Around 10 a.m., officials issued a 48-hour boil water notice as service began to be restored.

“While our potable water remains safe and secure to drink, this notice is being issued as an extra safety measure,” city officials said in a statement posted to the city’s website.

Until 10 a.m. Tuesday, officials said all water used for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, making ice and brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute.

Who is affected by boil notice?

Residents who receive water from the city of Bradenton’s water treatment plant should comply with the boil notice, a city spokesperson said in an update on Sunday evening.

Residents in the following areas, which are billed by the city of Bradenton but receive Manatee County water, can disregard the boil water notice, the city said:

    • Perico Bay
    • Manatee Memorial
    • Palma Sola
    • Harbor Isle
    • Harbor Isle Marina

Power failure caused Bradenton water outage, officials say

The Bradenton Police Department first reported the water outage around 7:50 a.m.

A police spokesperson said the city’s Public Works Department confirmed the outage was citywide.

A power loss at the city’s treatment plant that was likely caused by weather led to the water outage, the police department said.

In an update around 9:30 a.m., the agency said generators were being used to get the water system back online.

As of 2:45 p.m., Florida Power & Light had restored power to the treatment plant and it was operating normally, the city wrote on X, the social media website formerly known as Twitter.
