The city of Bradenton has issued a boil water notice as a precaution following a power outage at the city's water treatment plant this weekend.

The notice was issued after the city's water treatment plan experienced an overnight power outage caused by weather events that resulted in low water pressure. The city used generators to restore power to the plant until Florida Power & Light was able to restore power at about 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The boil water notice runs until 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The city advises residents to bring water that is used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes to a rolling boil for one minute.

"While our potable water remains safe and secure to drink, this notice is being issued as an extra safety measure due to the possibility of contamination," the city stated in the notice.

The city indicated that the boil notice does not apply to four specific areas that use Manatee County water, Perico Bay, Manatee Memorial, Palma Sola and Harbor Isle.
