Community Action to buy Smith building for $1 Winneshiek County
Winneshiek County plans to sell Decorah’s historic Smith building to Northeast Iowa Community Action. During Monday morning’s Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors meeting, NEICAC Director Trisha Wilkins reported that the NEICAC Board of Directors recently approved the purchase of the Smith building – located at 305 Montgomery St. – from the county for $1. The formal deeding of the property will require a public hearing at a later date. The board generally agreed to on a tentative transfer date of Sept. 3, and will continue discussions with NEICAC regarding the expected sale.
Sioux Center driver's license spot closing
ORANGE CITY—The driver’s license station at the Centre Mall in Sioux Center will close this week, according to Sioux County treasurer Dan Zomermaand. He updated the county board of supervisors during its Tuesday, July 9 meeting about the planned move to the new treasurer’s building at 211 Central Ave. S. in Orange City across from the county courthouse.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The recently opened Beacon Village acts as both an affordable housing option and a place for women in crises to heal. Crawford County Memorial Hospital Contributed Over $60 Million To State’s Economy
A study conducted by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) found that Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison has contributed over $60 million to Iowa’s economy in 2023. Iowa hospitals throughout the state invested $21.3 billion, and Crawford County Memorial Hospital made up $63.7 million. Over $30 million stayed in the local community as wages and benefits from employment, $34.4 million to be more precise. The hospital supported 559.2 job opportunities, which makes up 8.5% of all individuals employed throughout Crawford County, are at the hospital. Crawford County Memorial Hospital is also a huge supporter of Denison and surrounding communities, with $2.6 million allocated for charity care to provide necessary health services to individuals who cannot afford it, serving 4.4 thousand individuals through this program.
