GREENFIELD — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez is hosting the fourth annual District 3 Open House on Thursday, July 25, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at his main office at the Greenfield Civic Center, 599 El Camino Real, in Greenfield. During this time, Lopez and staff will announce the winners of the painting and photography competition, “We Are Southern Monterey County,” and recognize the South County Young Leaders for their work this summer. Kim Stemler Passes Reins at MCVGA to Helena Welsh
July 23, 2024 – We’ve known for some time that Kim Stemler, who has stewarded the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association since 2012 as executive director, recently took on a new job with the Carmel Foundation. It was just a matter of finding the right fit to replace her at MCVGA and it appears that the glass slipper will now be worn by Helena Welsh—a long-time resident of California’s Lake County.
Governor orders urgent action on homeless encampments statewide
– Governor Gavin Newsom issued an executive order today directing state agencies to urgently address homeless encampments “while respecting the dignity and safety of Californians experiencing homelessness,” according to a press release from the governor’s office. The governor’s order follows the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Grants Pass v Johnson and urges local governments to use substantial state funding to take similar action.
