Cypress Gardens to open family-friendly TRACK Trail at event on Aug. 17
Cypress Gardens and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s Kids in Parks program are pleased to announce the grand opening of a new family-friendly trail on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 1 p.m. The grand opening will be held in conjunction with National TRACK Trails Day, an annual event celebrating the Kids in Parks program’s national network of TRACK Trails. Cypress Gardens will be one of several sites hosting an opening or public program in celebration of Kids in Park’s 15th anniversary.
Men follow couple that just won big at casino, then shoot and rob them, Florida cops say
A couple cashed out after a big win at a casino, then they were followed home and shot, Florida authorities said. Marcus Jenkins, 34, and Tristin Wright, 36, face an array of charges in Hillsborough County in connection with what deputies are calling an attempted murder. Neither has attorney information available in court records.
Prescribed burn at Circle B Bar Reserve will shut down another trail for part of Thursday
Polk County’s Parks and Natural Resources Division will conduct a 20-acre prescribed burn Thursday at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland. During the prescribed burn, a portion of the Eagle Roost trail, which is located near the uplands on the southern half of property, will be closed to the public, the county said in a news release. It is expected to reopen later Thursday.

Bjorn Debbassai Blanchard, formerly of Lincoln City, died July 27, 2024 in Lakeland, Florida after a struggle with mental illness. He was 32. Bjorn was born in Milwaukie, Oregon and lived in Lincoln City and Northeast Portland before moving with his parents to New Jersey at the age of 6. He lived and went to school in Princeton, New Jersey before moving to his grandparents’ home to attend high school in Lincoln City. He graduated Taft High School in 2010.
