Ready to Ride: GMSR starts Friday
To echo the famous (and recently trumpeted) Olympic call to action: Let the Games begin! Starting Friday, August 30, 2024, with a time trial -- one rider at a time -- in Warren, the Green Mountain Stage Race (GMSR) will be set to go for a fall tradition that began in 2001. When registration closed on Tuesday, close to 650 riders were signed up to take on the four-day challenge. Riders will be coming from 34 U.S. states and from as far away as Spain, Belize, Colombia, and Bermuda.

Candidate for Plattsburgh Common Council charged with DWI
The only candidate in Plattsburgh’s Ward 6 common council race was arrested for drunk driving last week. The Plattsburgh Press Republican reports that Amy Collin was stopped by Plattsburgh Police on August 22nd and a breath test showed a blood alcohol level of .10-percent. The Democrat said she had three drinks at a local bar before leaving to visit a friend. She faces charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding .08 percent and failure to signal.

My Place Hotels of America has opened My Place Hotel-Randolph, Vt. in Randolph Center, Vt. It is the first My Place property to open in Vermont and 74th open and operating My Place property in the United States. My Place Hotel-Randolph, Vt. is owned by Randolph Hospitality and was developed by Realty Development Services. New World Festival marks 32nd year at Chandler Center for the Arts
Sunday Sept. 1 at Noon— Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler Center for the Arts, 71 N.Main St., Randolph will host the 32nd annual New World Festival, Vermont’s premier Celtic and Quebecois music and dance festival. Main St. is shut down each Labor Day Sunday performances are held on four stages, featuring over a dozen bands and artists from noon to 11 p.m. Headlining the event, festival veterans Le Vent du Nord from Quebec will perform a mainstage concert and close down the festival in the dance tent.

Burlington, VT – Thunderstorms and heavy rain will move through Vermont starting Friday night into Labor Day weekend, bringing the potential for localized flooding and ponding on roadways. Showers will move west to east, with brief heavy rain expected, particularly on Saturday. According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the storms could produce localized rainfall amounts over one inch, creating minor flooding concerns in urban and poorly drained areas.
