TANEY COUNTY, Mo. — A Taney County man has been arrested with charges of second-degree murder after a shooting just outside the city limits of Branson on Wednesday.

One dead and one detained in shooting near Branson

According to court documents, on June 26, Mitchell Hale, 36, allegedly shot and killed James Anderson at 195 Cannonball Loop. Witnesses stated that Hale and Anderson were yelling and cursing at each other. When Hale went inside his residence Anderson followed. Witnesses say they heard a gunshot and found the victim inside with a wound to his head.

Court documents stated there had been previous law enforcement contact involving Hale and Anderson earlier in the day. Police told the pair to stay away from each other.

Although Anderson had a folding knife in his pocket, police say other than verbal threats there was no evidence that the victim held a threat of death or serious injury to Hale prior to the shooting.

Hale is currently being held without bond.
