NBC Sports Philadelphia Has A New Graphics Package

NBC Sports Philadelphia — the regional sports network that broadcasts the Phillies, Sixers and Flyers — has a new graphics package.

Jason Dachman and Brandon Costa of Sports Video Group obtained some images of the new graphics, which will make their first appearance locally during this evening's preseason game between the Flyers and New York Islanders:

If you're a graphics nerd, this explanation from Dachman will probably mean something to you.

"As part of the move to a new on-air look, NBC Sports Regional Networks have also instituted a cloud-based graphics-production ecosystem built upon Ross Video’s Xpression and Game Creek Video’s GCV Anywhere platforms. It’s believed to be the first time a fully cloud-based graphics system has been used for all games by an RSN group."

Here's a look at an example of what the new final score graphic will look like on Sixers telecasts this year:

The article notes that this is in place for the 2024-25 NBA and NHL seasons, but doesn't make mention of the final weekend of the MLB regular season. NBC has local baseball broadcast rights not only in Philadelphia, but also San Francisco, Chicago (White Sox) and Oakland (through this weekend, at least). It would seem strange to introduce new graphics for just a few games.

Costa was told by an unnamed source that as far as the in-game scorebug goes the network "reskinned the bug based on our new look and added a bunch of new features." That's pretty vague, so it will be a wait-and-see on the scorebug, which is probably the thing the average fan cares the most about.

Personally, I think the current look is pretty good.

Update: This is what the new scorebug looks like on tonight's Flyers broadcast
