AVOYELLES PARISH, La. ( KLFY )– A Bunkie man and Breaux Bridge man were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 29 near Overbey Road on the Fourth of July.

Around 1:30 a.m., Louisiana State Police responded to the incident that claimed the lives of 63-year-old Shepherd Roy Jr., and 75-year-old Robert Johnson. Authorities said Roy was driving a a 2001 GMC Sierra northbound on the highway when, for reasons still yet to be determined, the vehicle crossed the centerlines into the southbound travel lane and crashed head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado Johnson was operating.

Both men were pronounced dead at the location of the crash, according to State Police. Authorities said impairment may be a contributing factor to this incident. Toxicology samples were taken for analysis.

This is an ongoing investigation.
