Two Breaux Bridge men accused of robbing ATM repairman

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — Two Breaux Bridge men were arrested on charges of first-degree robbery in connection to an alleged armed robbery at an ATM machine.
According to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, deputies received a call around 8 p.m. from a bank in the 100 block of West Main Street on Monday, June 24.
When deputies arrived at the bank, they spoke with the male victim, an ATM repairman, who told them that he was allegedly “approached by two masked suspects as he serviced the ATM machine” and they “demanded money and threatened his life with the use of a firearm.” According to the repairman, the two suspects “forcefully removed several components of the ATM machine” and left the bank in a vehicle.
With the assistance of the the ATM repairman and other witnesses, TPSO deputies were able to identify the kind of vehicle that the suspects escaped in and had further investigation from the detectives of the Violent Crimes Division.
According to TPSO deputies, the investigation led to the discovery of the vehicle in St. Martin Parish and one suspect, Gilbert Matthews. Deputies were able to find the damaged ATM parts in the surrounding area.

Upon further investigation, authorities were able to find video surveillance footage, which showed Matthews and the second suspect, Jermonte Hamilton. In addition to this, deputies were able to collect DNA evidence from other ATM parts, according to the TPSO.
Matthews, 27, was arrested by St. Martin Parish deputies on Tuesday, July 2 and was booked into the Criminal Justice Complex on a $5 million bond.
TPSO deputies arrested Hamilton, 23, in Lafayette and he was booked into the Criminal Justice Complex on a $3 million bond.
