Steep Canyon Rangers to Play Colorado Dates

    By Cam Burns,

In a list of his 15 favorite songs for the British magazine Far Out , Steve Martin had three songs by The Steep Canyon Rangers.

Of course, he played on two of the tracks, but his list doesn't have any other musicians listed twice, let alone three times.

    The songs he listed were:

    • ‘Be Still Moses’ – The Steep Canyon Rangers,
    • ‘Atheists Don’t Have No Songs’ – Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, and
    • ‘Rare Bird Alert’ – Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers.

On July 19, the band will play the Steamboat Strings Festival at 7 pm. The following day (July 20), they'll be at the Boulder Theater at 8 pm. And July 21, they'll be at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge at 7:30 pm.

These guys—from North Carolina—are beyond good.

In 2013, the Steep Canyon Rangers' album Nobody Knows You won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.

Martin began collaborating with The Steep Canyon Rangers in 2009, at Martin's request.

He and the Rangers appeared at a benefit concert for the Los Angeles Public Library. Martin then asked the Rangers to travel with him on a "world bluegrass tour," which saw the group performing in places like Carnegie Hall (New York), Royal Festival Hall (London) and the Wang Center in Boston.
