Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 8.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.03/g today, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 1.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 20.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.0 cents in the last week and stands at $3.79 per gallon.
Mets pick BHS graduate Owen Woodward in MLB draft
Breckenridge High School graduate Owen Woodward was drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, July 17. Woodward, who just wrapped up his senior year at the University of Houston, where he pitched for the Cougars, was picked in the 15th round (no. 443) by the New York Mets. Woodward will be going to the Mets with fellow Houston pitcher Jaxon Jelkin, who was picked on Monday. Also picked in the draft was Houston pitcher, Cade Citelli, who was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday.

Prices in Texas are 15.2 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 3.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. District Attorney releases list of June 2024 plea deals
The 90th Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s recently released the following list of cases that were pleaded in June 2024:. Etta Pauline Riley, 69, of Breckenridge, pleaded guilty to the offense of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and was sentenced to seven years Community Supervision and ordered to pay $500 fine and court costs; and pleaded guilty to another offense of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and was sentenced to seven years Community Supervision and ordered to pay court costs.
Breckenridge 13U Little League team to play in state championship tournament this week
Breckenridge’s Little League 13U Intermediate baseball team will play in the 2024 Texas West State Little League Championship Tournament in Abilene this week. County Commissioners leave burn ban in place
Stephens County residents remain under a fire ban after the County Commissioners took no action on the agenda item at their meeting this morning, July 8. County Fire Marshal Wayne McMullen said that even with the rain overnight, he does not recommend removing the fire ban, which was enacted at the previous County Commissioners meeting. The forecast for the upcoming week has very low chances of rain and increasing temperatures, he said.

Stephens Co. UPRA Rodeo scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 12-13
The Stephens County Rodeo Association will host a UPRA Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, at the Stephens County Arena, on County Road 245, just east of Breckenridge. The United Professional Rodeo Association event will begin with a grand entry at 7:30 p.m. each night and will include bareback, saddle bronc, ranch bronc, bull riding, calf roping, breakaway, team roping and barrel racing. Between events, there will also be a calf scramble for kids in two categories – age 9 and under, and age 12 and under. Entry in the calf scramble will be free, and there will be a $50 prize for the winners.
