City of Breckenridge to host Open House on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to present construction projects
The City of Breckenridge will host an open house event on Tuesday, Jan. 23, to present some of the City’s upcoming construction projects. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, located at 100 E. Elm St., and will be open to the public.
Stephens County Chronicles: Theaters offered entertainment for early Breckenridge residents
From 1950 through the late 1970s, Breckenridge offered entertainment in the form of movies at a couple of drive-in theaters on the west side of town. But, back in its earlier days, the city was home to several movie theaters, including the National Theatre, which has since been restored to its former glory.

Fire destroys Shawna’s Bake Barn early Sunday morning
A fire on the west side of Breckenridge destroyed a building known as Shawna’s Bake Barn early Sunday morning, Jan. 21. The Breckenridge Fire Department responded to the fire at 2603 W. Walker St., across the street from the Ridge Motel and Familia’s Mexican Restaurant, at about 6:40 a.m. The fire was reported by a neighbor.

Audelia Fuqua, age 83, of Woodson, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Rosary will be recited from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 21, at Morehart Mortuary.

Anyone who wants to vote by mail in the upcoming Primary Election must apply for a Ballot By Mail by Feb. 23. Volatile market leads to slight drop in Texas gas prices, slight rise in prices nationwide
Average gasoline prices in Texas have fallen 0.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.63/g on Monday, Jan. 15, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 13.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 27.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has fallen 2.0 cents in the last week and stands at $3.89 per gallon.
